Sat 5th June: Woolston Tournament (Quarter Finals)
After last seasons heroics against Winwick in the quarters and then losing out to Netherley in the Semi Final, Celtic failed to progress past Winwick in the Quarters this time out. The boys did really well and didn't conceed a goal in regular time all day and it was nice to see all the new boys on the scoresheet for Saints.
Goals - Owen (3), James (2) Liam L (2)
Wed 9th June: Friendly - Haydock JFC (Lost 1-0)
This was only our second 11 a side friendly and Haydocks first and this ended up being a really boring encounter with both teams cancelling each other out before Callum scored a spectacular own goal at the very end.
Sat 19th June: Friendly - Appleton Boys A (Won 4-1)
This was a great game against division one runners up Appleton who are a very good team. Unlike our previous game against Haydock our football was very fluid and a joy to watch. After going behind in the first half against the run off play James brought us level just before the break after kieran had put him clean through. A further two goals from James in the second half after both Kieran and Callum opened Appleton up with superb passing. Tom Baines grabbed a fourth just before the end to complete the scoring.
Goals - James (3), Tom B
Sat 26th June: Friendly - Fife A (Won 7-1)
This really was a game of two halves and again the Saints had to go behind before they got going. Tom Eaton got a chance before the break to level the game from the spot but went down the middle to the keepers delight. The second half was a bit of a blur as Saints had a crazy ten minute spell and went goal crazy. James grabbed his second hatrick in two games before Kieran, Josh and both Toms finished the rout. A truly awesome performance form the boys.
Goals - James (3), Tom B, Tom E, Josh, Kieran
Wed 30th June: Friendly - Stockholm (Drew 0-0)
This was another good test with a bare bones squad against a good side with a big reputation. We had expected to have the full squad back and be able to take 15 to Runcorn for this tough encounter but with Kieran falling ill after school and then both Owen and Matt unavailable at the last minute we went with 12. We then lost Jack at half time to a knock and he couldn't play any further part so we were down to no subs but the boys battled hard. We could have won the game with some great chances but lacked composure before Stockholm hit back with some good play and Connor had to make a couple of fine saves. A late penalty was awarded to Stockholm which was dubious to say the least but justice was done when Connor saved well.
The game ended a stalemate so we settled it with pens which we finally won 5-4.
Well done to everyone and roll on July!!
