11/07/2010 - Under 7`s in Classic Trophy Win

The under 7`s took the Billinge mini tournament yesterday with a hard fought 4-2 win (after extra time) win over a very good Rainford Rangers side.

The day started with a 4-0 win over Billinge, our second game was against Sutton which we won 3-1 and our final group match was against Rainford who like us had already qualified for the final, and we won the final rehearsal with an amazing 4-3 win despite being 3-0 down at half time.

The final itself was another classic, with Saints dominating the first half yet only having a 1-0 advantage at the break. The second half to their credit Rainford played the better stuff and probably deserved their two goals which gave them a 2-1 lead with only a minute to go, yet somehow with the last attack of the match we scored an equalizer which forced the game into extra time.

The extra time started with us on the front foot, as Rainford were a bit deflated after conceding such a late leveller, and it wasn`t long before we scored to make it 3-2 at half time in extra time. The second period of extra time was end to end with Rainford coming close on 2 or 3 occasions to grabbing an equalizer, but in the end we scored our 4th goal which killed the tie off and meant that we ended up winning the tournament 4-2.

Special thanks to Mark from Billinge for inviting us to the tournament, and another special thanks to Phil from Rainford and their parents for the very sporting way in which they took their dissapointment.
